Tooth Extraction

Dental extraction, commonly called tooth extraction, is the surgical removal of a tooth. At Teeth Plus Clinic, we understand that this procedure could be stressful for some. We provide few options to our patients to relieve their stress:

A) If you are too nervous about your tooth extraction, we can help you by our visiting anaesthetist. We have an experienced team of Anaesthetists who can put you into sleep ( Sedation) so you wont feel or remember anything of your surgery

B) We have Nitrous oxide gas facility, if you prefer this option

C) We ensure you that we extract your teeth after a deep and profound local anaesthetics is in place.

What Happens During Tooth Extraction

Before extracting your tooth, your dentist in Annandale takes an x-ray to come up with the safest and most effective way of tooth removal. Then, your dentist takes your comprehensive medical history to make sure that no complication ensues during and after the procedure. Once cleared, your dentist performs the procedure.

Note that there Two Types of Extraction:

Simple extraction

Simple extraction is applicable to a tooth that is completely visible in the mouth. The process is quite straightforward. Your dentist administers a local anaesthetic to numb the affected area. Once numbed, your dentist carefully grasps your tooth using a pair of forceps, which he move back and forth to loosen the tooth until it is successfully extracted.

Surgical extraction

Compared to simple extraction, surgical extraction is necessary when the tooth is only partially showing through the gums, or broken off at gum level. Much like simple extraction, your dentist administers a local anaesthetic before a small incision is made to reveal the entire tooth, including the tooth root. After which, your dentist uses the same extraction techniques as with a simple extraction. There are times during surgical extraction when the dentist needs to cut the tooth into several parts to make it easier to remove.

After the procedure, your dentist will place cotton swab at the site of extraction. You will then be asked to bite down to stop the bleeding. Extraction after care mostly include allowing the extraction site optimal healing process. This mostly means no vigorous rinsing and brushing. This also means kicking the consumption of alcohol and tobacco product during the healing process.
