In January of 2014, Medical Teen Dental plan was formally replaced by Child Dental Benefits Schedule, a new dental and oral health scheme that provides children who are coming from eligible families with financial support for basic dental care.
As the numbers have it, Child Dental Benefit Scheme makes professional oral healthcare readily accessible to approximately 3.4 million children who are between the ages of 2 to 17 years. This new dental scheme basically allows for a total benefit entitlement cap of $1000 per child. Simply put, CDBS dramatically improves your children’s chances of preserving their healthy and youthful smiles.
It is the Department of Human Services that evaluates the eligibility of the child at the start of every calendar year. After the process of evaluation, it is also the Department of Human Services that notifies the families of eligible children. Basically, children between the ages of 2 to 17 years who belong to families that receive Family Tax Benefits are considered eligible. Note that eligible children stay eligible during the entire calendar year, even if they are just 2 or are already turning 18 within the period of eligibility.

Note that even dental treatments covered by CBDS have their own claiming restrictions. Also note that CBDS does not cover orthodontic and cosmetic dental procedures.
Any remaining balance within the two-year calendar period cannot be used past the indicated period at hand. The CBDS cap can only be used by the eligible patient, and therefore rendered technically useless to family members.
